Srinagar, Aug 13 (KNO): The Centre has said that BSNL’s 4G mobile services are functioning well in several remote and border villages of Kargil district in the Union Territory of Ladakh, including Shimsha, Yorbaltak, Apati, Tumail, Kharbo, Holiyal, Chechasna, Wakha Gyal, Tsaraks, Brok Lungma and Heniskote.
The information was provided by Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar in response to an unstarred question raised by Ladakh MP Mohammad Haneefa in the Lok Sabha on August 12, 2026.
The Ministry of Communications, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said BSNL provides coverage in Kargil district through 4G eNodeB using the 700 MHz frequency band, adding that 4G services are functioning well on handsets compatible with the 700 MHz band.
The Centre further informed the Lok Sabha that, as of June 30, 2026, a total of 277 mobile towers covering 370 villages/locations had been made operational under various mobile connectivity projects funded through the Digital Bharat Nidhi in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The response came against questions regarding the reported non-functionality of BSNL 4G services in several remote villages of Kargil despite installation of 4G infrastructure—(KNO)
